POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF FOUR-YEAR-OLD BOY IN NSW

SUN 05 JUL 2026 CRIME

New South Wales police have launched an investigation into the death of a four-year-old boy in Wyong, with a 32-year-old woman charged with murder. Officers attended a property on Byron Street after the woman visited Wyong Police Station on Saturday at 16:40. Police discovered the body of the child, who bore significant injuries to his arm. Superintendent Chad Gillies described the scene as "extremely confronting" in a subsequent press conference.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that cannibalism was being examined as a potential factor in the incident. Superintendent Gillies declined to speculate on the specific nature of the injuries or the circumstances surrounding the death. He confirmed the child sustained injuries but did not elaborate on their extent. The woman and the boy lived together at the unit, and Gillies stated the woman was known to police prior to this incident.

Detectives will conduct a methodical investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the death, according to Superintendent Gillies. The woman did not appear at a bail hearing and the case will return to court on 1 September. Gillies stated that establishing a full account of what occurred was essential to present findings to the court. Neither the woman nor the child can be identified for legal reasons.
