EDINBURGH FAMILY'S ATTIC SILVER COLLECTION SELLS FOR £60,000

SUN 05 JUL 2026

An antique silver collection discovered in an Edinburgh family's attic has sold for £59,761 at auction. The haul comprised over 100 pieces of British and continental silver, dating from the early 18th to the early 20th centuries. The collection had remained hidden in the New Town property for nearly a century before the family uncovered it whilst clearing the home. Elmwood's in London conducted the auction.

The collection significantly exceeded its pre-sale estimate of approximately £23,000. The most valuable individual item was a set of fine Danish vintage cutlery, which sold for £5,200. The remaining pieces sold across a range of prices, with each attracting buyers at auction. The auction house does not appear to have released a breakdown of individual sales beyond the Danish cutlery set.

The family described the sale as an "extraordinary journey" for the pieces, which moved from their long concealment to new ownership with collectors. No further dispersal of items from the property has been announced. The family's reaction suggests satisfaction with the auction outcome and the prospect of the antiques finding new homes.
