PAUL PELOSI REFERRED FOR HIT-AND-RUN CHARGES AFTER CAR CRASH

SAT 04 JUL 2026 CRIME

Paul Pelosi, husband of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney's Office for potential hit-and-run charges following a collision in Yountville, California on Friday afternoon. According to the Napa County Sheriff's Office, Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when it struck an unoccupied parked car on Yount Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. A witness reported to police that the driver briefly stopped after the collision before driving away from the scene.

Sheriff's deputies located the brown convertible less than two miles from the incident, partially blocking Yountville Cross Road with a California Highway Patrol vehicle behind it. The vehicle displayed significant damage to its right front consistent with the reported crash. The sheriff's office stated that Pelosi admitted to hitting something but said he did not know what he had struck, so he continued driving until the car became disabled. The incident did not appear to involve alcohol. Pelosi was not arrested at the scene. The sheriff's office submitted a California Department of Motor Vehicles re-evaluation form, which the office said is standard procedure for elderly drivers.

The referral follows a 2022 DUI case in which Pelosi pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and causing injury in Napa Valley, serving five days in jail and completing a DUI programme. That year, Pelosi also became the subject of national attention after an intruder attacked him with a hammer at the family's San Francisco home, resulting in two skull fractures requiring surgical treatment.
