THREE-YEAR-OLD INJURED IN CROCODILE ENCLOSURE UNDERGOES FIVE SURGERIES

SAT 04 JUL 2026 CRIME

A three-year-old boy who was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst farm and zoo in Cambridgeshire on 18 June has undergone five surgical procedures. His family released an update stating that the child sustained serious injuries and faces a lengthy rehabilitation process. The parents said they have been staying at the hospital continuously and expect their son will require at least two additional surgeries. The family thanked donors who have raised more than £25,000 to support the child's recovery and provide financial stability whilst the parents remain away from work.

A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident. Police said the suspect was later released on bail after being "assessed as not being fit for interview". The man reportedly has learning disabilities and had been at the zoo as part of a trip with carers. Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the boy sustained serious injuries from being injured by a crocodile after entering the enclosure.

The boy's family expressed gratitude to zoo staff who rescued their son from the enclosure and to hospital staff who have supported them throughout the incident. The family said donations would be used to support the child's ongoing rehabilitation and to contribute to the hospital that has assisted them. They described the past two weeks as "a very uncertain and unsettling time" and noted that the rehabilitation journey ahead remains uncertain in duration and outcome.
