KATIE PRICE REGRETS 2002 INTERVIEW ABOUT GARETH GATES ROMANCE
Katie Price has stated she regrets giving a tell-all interview in 2002 about her relationship with Pop Idol finalist Gareth Gates. The interview, in which Price disclosed intimate details of their romance, was given as "revenge" after Gates denied they had ever been together, according to comments made in her new documentary series Katie Price: Nothing to Hide. Price has said she now wishes she had not sold the story to the press, and believes it affected Gates at the time.
In 2002, Gates had recently finished second on Pop Idol and was known for his clean public image, whilst Price was 23 years old, pregnant with her first child following a brief relationship with footballer Dwight Yorke, and was still primarily known by her alter-ego "Jordan". The interview included Price revealing she was the first person Gates had slept with. Price has described her experience at the time, saying she attempted repeatedly to contact Gates without response, and felt hurt by his denial of their relationship. She characterised her decision to speak to the press as retaliation, saying: "By telling the truth, like a revenge."
The documentary series, which airs on Sky, features Price reflecting on her decades-long career in the public eye, from her work as a page three girl in the 1990s through to subsequent events in her personal and professional life. Price has stated she has nothing to hide in the series. The first two episodes have now been released.
