APPLE APP STORE GENERATES $1.4 TRILLION IN GLOBAL BILLINGS IN 2025

FRI 05 JUN 2026 AI

The Apple App Store recorded $1.4 trillion in total billings and sales globally in 2025, according to a study commissioned by Apple. Apps featuring consumer artificial intelligence tools generated billings growth four times higher than apps without those features. The figures cover transactions processed through the App Store across all markets. Apple published the findings as part of its broader promotion of the platform's economic scale.

Apple funded the study itself, making the company both the subject and the financial backer of the research. The data also shows that 90 percent of App Store billings and sales occurred without Apple collecting a commission. That figure reflects the volume of transactions Apple classifies as outside its standard revenue-sharing structure, including those made by large developers under alternative arrangements and transactions in certain regions. The split between commissionable and non-commissionable sales has become a focal point in ongoing regulatory and legal scrutiny of Apple's App Store practices.

The release of the study comes as Apple faces continued legal and legislative pressure over App Store fees and developer terms across multiple jurisdictions. Regulatory bodies in the European Union and the United States have separately examined Apple's commission structures and access policies. The AI billing growth data reinforces the increasing financial weight of AI-integrated applications within the App Store ecosystem. Apple has not announced changes to its commission policies in connection with the study's release.
