BRITISH TIKTOK INFLUENCER CHARGED WITH MURDER IN DUBAI

Brooke George, a TikTok influencer from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with premeditated murder in connection with the death of William Treeby, a 26-year-old British national, in Dubai. George, 23, could face the death penalty by firing squad if convicted. George states she acted in self-defence during a violent attack. Her family have alleged that Treeby subjected her to repeated domestic abuse and withheld her passport to prevent her from leaving the United Arab Emirates.

According to George's account, Treeby struck her when she demanded the return of her passport, prompting her to take a kitchen knife from the kitchen as she believed her life was in danger. After her arrest, George reported that she was denied access to a lawyer and was required to remove her clothing in front of male officers without female officers present, which she described as deeply humiliating and distressing. Her family stated that she had booked a flight to return home after becoming frightened of Treeby. Five people were present at Treeby's apartment during the fatal stabbing: George, Treeby, two of his male friends and a maid, with one of the men reportedly wanted by Kent Police.

Campaigners have identified several unresolved questions in the case, including the whereabouts and identities of witnesses who were present. Reports indicate that at least one of Treeby's friends contacted multiple people in Britain shortly after his death. Investigators believe calls made by the men and information stored on their mobile phones could prove significant to the inquiry. It remains unclear whether UK police will launch their own investigation into the circumstances.
