EXPLOSION AT DAMASCUS CAFÉ KILLS MULTIPLE PEOPLE

An explosive device detonated in a café in Damascus's Al-Hijaz area, resulting in deaths and injuries. According to Al Jazeera, at least 6 people were killed and 22 injured in the blast. Syrian authorities provided a different account to France 24, stating that 5 people died and 10 were injured. Emergency crews, civil defence teams and security forces attended the scene, established a security cordon and began investigating.

Syrian state television attributed the explosion to an explosive device, though no further details regarding the device's origin or circumstances were provided in either report. The café's location in central Damascus made it a populated area at the time of the detonation. The discrepancy between casualty figures reported by different sources reflects varying accounts from authorities and news organisations covering the incident.

Investigations into the blast remained ongoing as of the reports' publication. No organisation claimed responsibility for the explosion. The incident marked another significant loss of life in Damascus, though the exact toll and circumstances remain subject to the investigation's findings.
