JOCKEY FRANKIE DETTORI INJURED IN CAR CRASH NEAR NEWMARKET
Frankie Dettori sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb following a car accident on Wednesday evening near Newmarket in Suffolk, according to his management. Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Dettori was driving, causing it to spin and flip. Dettori remained in hospital undergoing further scans and observation as his injuries were being assessed. H Talent Management stated that Dettori's focus is now on rest and recovery.
Dettori, aged 55, has not ridden in Britain since October 2023, when he won the Champion Stakes on King of Steel at Ascot. He was scheduled to return to competitive riding in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during the St Leger Festival in September. The collision is believed to have occurred just over the border in Cambridgeshire. Cambridgeshire Police has been approached for comment on the incident.
H Talent Management released a statement thanking the emergency services who attended the scene and the medical team providing care. The management company requested that Dettori's privacy be respected and indicated that no further comment would be made until a meaningful update became available.
