THU 02 JUL 2026

A 16-year-old boy sustained gunshot wounds described as "potentially life-threatening" following a shooting near a mosque in Birmingham on Wednesday evening. West Midlands Police responded to reports of an incident on Bowyer Road, near St Saviours Road in the Alum Rock area, shortly before 5.30pm. The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

West Midlands Police stated that whilst the shooting occurred in proximity to a mosque, they did not believe the incident to be connected to the place of worship. Officers conducted forensic scientific examinations, reviewed CCTV footage and spoke to people in the area on the day of the incident. The force acknowledged the shooting had caused concern amongst local residents and deployed officers to address questions from the community.

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone with information, dashcam footage or doorbell camera recordings from the area to make contact. West Midlands Police said local officers would remain in the area to speak with anyone with concerns about the incident.
