MASKED PAIR SCALES EMPIRE STATE BUILDING AND APPEARS TO GET ENGAGED

Two masked individuals climbed to the top of the Empire State Building on Wednesday, 1 July, and appeared to get engaged at the summit. The pair reached the 1,454ft-tall skyscraper's peak whilst holding a banner that read "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace," according to reporting by the New York Post. New York City police and building security responded to the scene following the incident. The identities of those involved remain unknown, and it is unclear how the individuals accessed the top of the building.

The Empire State Building is one of New York City's most recognisable landmarks and a major tourist destination. Security at such high-profile buildings is typically extensive, making unauthorised access to the roof a significant breach. The banner's message about love and peace suggests the pair's actions were intended as a form of public statement or demonstration. Video footage of the incident circulated showing the masked climbers at the building's apex.

Authorities have not yet provided detailed information about how the individuals will be pursued or what charges they may face. The New York Post's account remains the primary source of information about the event at present. Building security and police continue to investigate the circumstances of the unauthorised ascent.
