DANNY GLOVER REVEALS ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE DIAGNOSIS
Danny Glover has publicly disclosed that he has been living with Alzheimer's disease for several years. The actor revealed the diagnosis during an appearance on The Today Show, stating he received it not long after being awarded an honorary Oscar in 2022. Glover noted that his movements, speech and memory have begun to slow as a result of the progressive condition. He stated that his life continues and he still has work to do, whilst acknowledging the mental difficulty of fully accepting all aspects of the diagnosis.
Glover's daughter, Mandisa, emphasised the importance of her father speaking out on his own terms about the condition. She highlighted the consistent support from his family as he navigates the disease. Throughout his nearly 40-year career, Glover has accumulated over 170 film and television credits. His roles include parts in the Lethal Weapon franchise and The Colour Purple, alongside extensive humanitarian work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations and Unicef.
The disclosure represents Glover's public account of his health status at a time when awareness of Alzheimer's disease remains a significant public health matter. His decision to speak about his diagnosis came following the honorary Oscar recognition in 2022. Glover's statement that he maintains a positive outlook despite the challenges suggests he intends to continue his public and humanitarian activities.
