BOY INJURED IN CROCODILE ATTACK AT CAMBRIDGESHIRE ZOO REMAINS IN HOSPITAL
A three-year-old boy injured at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo in Huntingdonshire remains in hospital in a stable condition following multiple surgeries. The incident occurred last month when the child ended up in a crocodile enclosure and was attacked by at least one crocodile. Zoo staff pulled the boy from the enclosure, with Tracey Johnson, wife of the zoo's owner, reportedly jumping into the enclosure to assist in the rescue. A 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later bailed after being assessed as unfit for interview.
The boy's family released a statement through Cambridgeshire police thanking zoo staff for their actions. The family requested anonymity and said their focus remained on the child's recovery and support during "this extremely challenging and prolonged period of time". The boy sustained serious injuries in the enclosure and has undergone multiple surgeries, according to a fundraising page set up to support his recovery and rehabilitation. The page described the "extraordinary bravery and quick actions of those nearby" in rescuing the child. Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge continues to provide his care, with his parents supporting him throughout his treatment.
Police confirmed the boy faces "a long road to recovery" both physically and psychologically. The fundraising initiative aims to provide the family with financial stability whilst they support the child in hospital and throughout the coming months. Johnsons of Old Hurst is home to over 100 animals including African lions, Bengal tigers and crocodiles, according to the zoo's website.
