TRUMP REPORTS $1BN CRYPTOCURRENCY INCOME IN ANNUAL DISCLOSURE
US President Donald Trump reported earnings exceeding $1 billion from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025, according to his mandatory financial disclosure filed on 1 July 2026. The 927-page document recorded $635 million in royalties from a Trump-branded meme coin launched shortly before he took office, which has since declined significantly in value. Trump also reported over $500 million in income from World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency company founded by his sons and the children of Steve Witkoff, his special envoy. These cryptocurrency earnings substantially exceed his reported income of $600 million in 2024.
The White House issued a statement denying any conflict of interest, stating that Trump placed his businesses in a trust managed by his sons. Deputy press secretary Anna Kelly said the president had made the United States "the crypto capital of the world" and that neither Trump nor his family had engaged in conflicts of interest. Trump himself has noted he is not subject to federal conflict of interest laws. The earnings also included millions from real estate and Trump-branded merchandise.
Trump's position on cryptocurrency has shifted considerably since 2021, when he called Bitcoin a "scam" and warned of "a disaster waiting to happen". During his 2024 presidential campaign, he expressed a desire to establish the US as the "crypto capital of the planet". His first executive order upon returning to office directed support for "the responsible growth" of the crypto industry. Richard Painter, former chief White House ethics lawyer under President George W Bush, described Trump's $1 billion cryptocurrency income as "extraordinary".
