FRITZ ADVANCES AT WIMBLEDON IN TAILORED SUIT AFTER BEATING LAJOVIC
Taylor Fritz, seeded sixth, defeated Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-4 6-3 in his first-round match at Wimbledon on Court One whilst wearing an all-white tailored suit over his standard tennis attire. The American arrived on court in a blazer and trouser combination styled after Roger Federer's 2007 Wimbledon outfit. Fritz acknowledged after the match that the statement clothing had heightened his anxiety during play, stating that losing whilst dressed in such fashion would have appeared unfavourable.
Fritz discussed the pressure associated with wearing distinctive outfits at tennis tournaments with fellow American Frances Tiafoe, joking that first-round defeats in such attire would be particularly embarrassing. Hugo Boss, his sponsor, proposed the outfit idea, and Fritz said he was not entirely certain about the clothing choice initially but felt satisfied with the appearance after reviewing photographs from the match. Other players have recently made fashion-inspired appearances at major tournaments, including Naomi Osaka, who wore a white kimono at Wimbledon and a gold dress at the French Open, and Novak Djokovic, who wore a custom-made Lacoste blazer at the tournament.
Fritz noted that he "couldn't really back out" of the outfit given his sponsorship arrangement with Hugo Boss. He indicated that people would hold divided opinions on the fashion choice. Fritz has been considered among the favourites at Wimbledon this year following strong performances on grass courts during the lead-up to the tournament.
