FRENCH POLICE INVESTIGATE CHILD TRAFFICKING CLAIMS ON VINTED

TUE 30 JUN 2026 CRIME

French police have launched an investigation following claims that the online marketplace Vinted is being used for child trafficking. The probe was initiated after social media users reported listings with descriptions they alleged contained coded language referring to height, weight and age. According to reports, some adverts listed items such as "toys" at unusually high prices, including listings at £26,000.

The investigation centres on whether sellers on the platform are using disguised language and pricing to facilitate illegal activity. Vinted is a secondhand marketplace application used by millions of people to buy and sell items. The reported adverts that prompted the police inquiry contained descriptions that users claimed were inconsistent with legitimate product sales.

French authorities have not yet released further details regarding the scope or progress of the investigation. The allegations have not been independently verified. Vinted has not publicly commented on the police inquiry or the claims made against the platform at this time.
