PARCEL BOMB WOUNDS UKRAINIAN OLIGARCH IN MONACO
A parcel bomb detonated in a residential building in Monaco on Monday evening, leaving three people with injuries. According to a source close to the investigation, Ukrainian oligarch Vadym Yermolaiev was among those wounded. The explosion occurred at approximately 9pm in an apartment block near the French border. Prince Albert II, Monaco's head of state, described the incident as a "heinous crime" and "a shock to the entire Monegasque community".
A couple in their 50s or 60s sustained life-threatening injuries, whilst a 13-year-old suffered less serious harm, according to Monaco's minister of state Christophe Mirmand. Four additional people received treatment for shock and cuts from shattered windows. Public prosecutor Stephane Thibault stated that a suspect left a bag or package in the building's lobby before departing. Mirmand said the explosive device contained bolts and buckshot. Approximately 50 firefighters and 80 security personnel were deployed to the scene.
An aide to France's interior minister stated that police were working to locate the suspect, who fled the area. Video surveillance recorded a suspect fleeing towards Beausoleil in France, according to the Monaco government. Mirmand reported that witnesses had provided information to assist in identifying the suspect. No indication had emerged as to the reason the building was targeted, Thibault said.
