BEN GODFREY JOINS RANGERS ON LOAN FROM ATALANTA
Rangers have signed Ben Godfrey from Atalanta on a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent next summer. The 28-year-old defender previously played for Everton and Norwich City. Godfrey said he was "buzzing" to join Rangers, describing the move as a "massive honour" and expressing his determination to help the club "achieve what it deserves, which is silverware and exciting times."
Godfrey moved to Atalanta in 2024 but has made only five appearances for the Serie A club. He spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Brondby, where he made 12 appearances as the Danish side finished fourth in their top flight. The defender is capable of playing centre-back and full-back, holds two England caps, and previously transferred from Norwich to Everton for a reported £20m in 2020. This loan represents his fourth temporary move in two years, following spells at Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Brondby.
Rangers manager Derek McInnes stated that Godfrey brings significant experience having "competed at a very high level throughout his career." McInnes highlighted Godfrey's Premier League pedigree and England involvement, describing him as "a strong, athletic defender with good qualities both on and off the ball." The manager added that Godfrey "can add a lot to the squad" at Ibrox.
