LEWANDOWSKI CLOSE TO CHICAGO FIRE MOVE FROM BARCELONA

MON 29 JUN 2026 FOOTBALL

Robert Lewandowski is expected to join Major League Football side Chicago Fire on a two-year deal following his departure from Barcelona. The 37-year-old Poland international left the La Liga club when his contract expired at the end of the season. Chicago Fire confirmed in December that they had held talks with Lewandowski over a potential transfer, and the club placed him on their discovery list, preventing other MLS sides from signing him without paying a fee.

Lewandowski is anticipated to become one of the highest earners in the MLS. Alongside Chicago Fire's interest, AC Milan and the Saudi Pro League had expressed interest in signing Poland's record goalscorer. Chicago Fire currently occupy third place in the MLS Eastern Conference and made their first play-off appearance last season. The club will resume action on 17 July against Vancouver following the World Cup break.

During his time at Barcelona, Lewandowski scored 120 goals in 193 games and helped the club win three La Liga titles and the 2025 Copa del Rey. Before joining Barcelona in 2022, he spent 12 seasons in the Bundesliga, winning 10 league titles and the 2020 Champions League with Bayern Munich. Injuries limited his availability last season, with the striker starting only 17 league games. Barcelona have since signed Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon on a five-year deal and are awaiting a decision from Marcus Rashford regarding his future.
