RADUCANU CUTS SHORT PRACTICE SESSION WITH ANKLE STRAPPED
Emma Raducanu postponed her pre-Wimbledon press conference on Saturday after ending a practice session early, prompting concerns about her fitness for the tournament. The British No 1 arrived at the All England Club with her right ankle secured in protective tape. She participated in a training session at the Aorangi training park at midday, then played a practice match against Anna Kalinskaya on Court 3 from 1pm. Raducanu ended the session approximately 10 minutes ahead of schedule after losing four consecutive games.
Raducanu has been managing a foot problem since reaching the Queen's final earlier this month. She did not appear at scheduled practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, and was reported to have worn a protective boot on Wednesday evening. Her team confirmed she is managing what they described as a niggle. Her first-round match against Croatia's Antonio Ruzic is scheduled for Monday.
The rescheduled press conference will now take place on Sunday, with the exact time yet to be confirmed. Official figures suggest Raducanu has reached her third career final in her recent appearance at Queen's, where she lost to Donna Vekic. She previously reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2024, and faced top seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round last year.
