74-YEAR-OLD PRAISES TEENAGE RESCUERS AFTER CARDIFF COLLAPSE

SAT 27 JUN 2026 EDUCATION

A man collapsed outside Cardiff Castle after attending Tafwyl festival and was assisted by two 15-year-old boys who provided first aid and arranged his transport to hospital. Nick Peacey was waiting for a bus when he became unwell last Sunday evening. Josh and Taylor found him drifting in and out of consciousness, gave him water and called an ambulance, but were informed that paramedics would take considerable time to arrive. When the bus departed from the stop, the pair remained with Peacey for approximately ninety minutes until Taylor contacted his mother to drive Peacey to University Hospital Wales.

Josh placed his jacket beneath Peacey's head and positioned him in the recovery position after witnessing the collapse. Taylor sought medical assistance but was unable to locate a medic; a festival security guard also responded and contacted emergency services on their behalf. Peacey was released from University Hospital Wales on Monday and subsequently underwent medical tests. Speaking on BBC Radio Wales Breakfast from Church Village in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Peacey stated he wanted the two boys to receive recognition for their actions.

Josh said he acted because "it would be just wrong" to leave someone injured without help. He described his assistance as a straightforward response to witnessing someone in need of support. Peacey characterised the boys' conduct as "brilliant" and expressed concern about negative public perception of young people. The three reunited in Cardiff's Central Square for the radio broadcast interview.
