LUKE HUMPHRIES BEATS LUKE LITTLER TO RETAIN US DARTS MASTERS TITLE

Luke Humphries defeated world champion Luke Littler in a deciding leg to successfully defend his US Darts Masters title at Madison Square Garden in New York. Humphries established a 4-1 advantage before Littler won four consecutive legs to move ahead. Humphries equalised at 5-5, and with possession of the throw at 7-7, secured back-to-back titles by finishing with an 11-dart leg and a 104 average. Littler, who struck nine maximums during the final, did not secure his maiden title in the competition.

Humphries progressed through the tournament by defeating Stephen Bunting 6-3 in the quarter-finals and Gian van Veen 7-6 in the semi-finals. Littler's route to the final included victories over Jim Long (6-1 in the quarter-finals) and James Wade (7-4 in the semi-finals). The 19-year-old world champion described the occasion as an unbelievable experience, noting the presence of England football supporters in attendance ahead of England's World Cup group match against Panama scheduled for the same evening in New York.

Humphries stated that Madison Square Garden represents "the most iconic venue I think darts will ever go to" and expressed his aim to establish records through performances others have not achieved. Littler acknowledged the atmosphere created by England supporters present at the venue, whilst noting the intensity of his rivalry with Humphries. The tournament took place on the evening before England's World Cup fixture against Panama in New York on Saturday.
