UTAH GOVERNOR ORDERS FIREWORKS BAN AS WILDFIRES SPREAD

SAT 27 JUN 2026

Spencer Cox, Governor of Utah, has announced a state of emergency and a temporary ban on personal fireworks use until 5 July. The prohibition comes as wildfires spread across the state, prompting evacuations and triggering red-flag warnings. The fireworks restriction applies to all personal use of the devices during the specified period.

The state of emergency declaration grants authorities enhanced powers to respond to the wildfire threat. Red-flag warnings indicate conditions favourable to rapid fire spread, typically involving low humidity, high temperatures and strong winds. Utah authorities have issued these warnings across multiple regions as the wildfire situation develops.

The Governor's order reflects efforts to reduce ignition sources during a period of elevated fire danger. Fireworks are a documented source of wildfire ignition, particularly in conditions of extreme dryness and heat. The measure remains in effect until 5 July, when officials will reassess fire conditions across the state.
