WIMBLEDON DEBENTURE TICKETS SELL FOR £586,000 PAIR
Two debenture tickets for Wimbledon Centre Court sold this week for a combined £586,000, according to reports of the resale market for the All England Lawn Tennis Club's special season passes. The debentures guarantee entry to all 14 days of the tournament for five consecutive years. The All England Lawn Tennis Club, which has operated the championship since 1868, last sold new debentures in 2024 at £116,000 each, raising £292 million for development funding.
Debenture holders can resell their allocation every Thursday at 11am on a secondary market. The financial instruments are classified alongside shares and bonds, and resales fall outside the scope of government legislation introduced last year that restricts the resale of live sporting event tickets above face value. Owners may sell tickets on a day-by-day basis without restriction. The All England Lawn Tennis Club operates as a private members organisation that manages ticket allocation through a public ballot system which, according to one applicant, produces low success rates despite years of participation.
The buyer of this week's debentures acquired rights to Centre Court matches from 2025 to 2030, though they cannot attend this year's tournament as rights were established in May. The resale market reflects access disparity, with debenture ownership concentrated among wealthy purchasers able to afford five-figure sums or higher on the secondary market.
