MEYER NAMES COLORADO UNDER SANDERS AS TOP COLLEGE FOOTBALL ATMOSPHERE
Urban Meyer, speaking as a broadcaster on The Triple Option podcast, identified Folsom Field as the college football stadium with the best atmosphere he has witnessed in his broadcasting role. Meyer, who coached at multiple prominent programmes during his career, stated that the environment created around Deion Sanders and Colorado exceeded that of other major venues. He recalled arriving an hour early for a pregame broadcast and observing students already gathered near the stage at 6:00 a.m., describing their energy as exceptional.
Colorado's ticketing performance shifted markedly following Sanders' arrival as head coach. The university had failed to sell out its stadium for 27 years before achieving sellouts within weeks in 2023. According to Colorado's athletic department figures, ticketing revenue reached $31.2 million in Sanders' first season—double the previous year's amount. The athletic department reported overall revenue of $146.6 million, with merchandise sales rising 1,200% and multimedia revenue increasing by 51% in 2023. Colorado's games have been placed in premium television windows by networks.
The programme's financial recovery extended beyond stadium attendance. Colorado achieved a 9-win season in 2024 under Sanders' leadership, with games becoming national television events. The athletic department attributed gains to increased donations and national exposure alongside ticket and merchandise revenue. Meyer's assessment of the stadium atmosphere reflects the shift in the programme's public profile since Sanders took the coaching position.
