MELANIE SYKES SHARES VIDEO UPDATE ON ALOPECIA HAIR LOSS
Melanie Sykes has posted a video to Instagram documenting hair loss caused by alopecia, showing large patches of missing hair on the sides of her head. The former television presenter filmed herself lying on her back, turning her head from side to side to reveal the affected areas, captioning the clip with "#Liberty". The update comes more than a year after Sykes first disclosed her alopecia diagnosis, alongside a heart condition and widespread inflammation, which she has attributed to prolonged stress and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Sykes previously stated that approximately two-thirds of her hair had been lost to the condition, with only the hair on her crown remaining in healthy condition. She told followers earlier this year that she wears beanies and various headwear due to feeling cold as a result of her hair loss. Sykes linked her health conditions to prolonged stress and PTSD, and reported experiencing what she described as "post-traumatic growth"—positive psychological changes that can follow periods of trauma.
Despite the ongoing health challenges, Sykes has repeatedly emphasised focusing on recovery and maintaining a positive outlook. She stated to fans that difficult periods do pass and that individuals can experience post-traumatic stress disorder and post-traumatic growth simultaneously. Sykes described herself as "living proof" that people can transcend trauma and experience positive change through the process.
