NOVAK DJOKOVIC JOINS GENERAL ATLANTIC AS GLOBAL STRATEGIC ADVISOR
Novak Djokovic has joined General Atlantic as a global strategic advisor. The private equity firm holds a large minority stake in Grupo Aguilas, the organisation that invests in Mexican Liga MX's Club America and Azteca Stadium. General Atlantic manages over $125bn in assets. Djokovic told Bloomberg that this represents his first partnership of this kind.
Djokovic is a 24-time Grand Slam tennis champion who will compete at Wimbledon next week against Wu Yibing. Bill Ford, chairman and chief executive of General Atlantic, stated that Djokovic's discipline and drive align with the firm's culture and values. Azteca Stadium, which holds 88,000 people, could host a FIFA World Cup knockout tie between Mexico and England in July should both nations progress from their respective groups. The move follows Christian Horner's recent appointment to Oakley Capital, which is seeking to invest in SailGP.
Djokovic said he was drawn to General Atlantic because the firm backs founders who refuse to accept limitations imposed by others. He stated that the principles driving high-level sporting performance—discipline, long-term thinking, and continuous improvement—are identical to those that build successful businesses. A documentary titled Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter is in development for Prime Video, according to the announcement.
