DAVID YORK TAKES ALL 10 WICKETS IN KETTERING CRICKET INNINGS
David York claimed all 10 wickets for 7 runs as Kettering's Third XI defeated Old Northamptonians Fourths by 186 runs in a Northamptonshire Cricket League Division Seven match. York's figures of 10-7 represent a rare achievement in club cricket, with nine of his dismissals coming from bowled deliveries. The opposition's innings lasted 16.5 overs, with their batsmen dismissed for 33 runs in reply to Kettering's total of 219-7.
York, a lorry driver and groundsman at Kettering, bowled Andrew Deeming with the opening ball of the Northamptonians' innings. Conditions on the day—muggy weather with cloud cover—favoured inswing bowling, according to York's own assessment. He had previously recorded his best figures of 7-13 against Irchester the preceding summer and described his performance as "like Groundhog Day", with wickets arriving in quick succession as batsmen proved unable to cope with the conditions and his accuracy. Steve Thomas carried his bat for 22 not out as his team-mates departed rapidly.
Taking all 10 wickets in a Test cricket innings has occurred only three times in the sport's history, making York's achievement at club level a notable one. Martin Reese, Kettering's co-chairman who also plays for the third team but missed the match through injury, acknowledged that York's performance would overshadow other notable individual displays from recent weeks, including a century from a fourth-team player and figures of 7-48 from a first-team bowler.
