LAVAR BALL URGES TIMBERWOLVES TO SIGN BROTHERS AFTER LAMELO TRADE
The Charlotte Hornets traded All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves, prompting LaVar Ball, the patriarch of the Ball family, to issue a public call for the franchise to sign his other two sons. In a social media video addressed to Timberwolves owner Aaron Rodriguez, LaVar Ball described the trade as "the coldest move in a game" and outlined what he characterised as a path to championship success. He stated that acquiring his other sons, Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball, would create "the most-watched team ever in the NBA" and claimed the combination would be unbeatable.
LaVar Ball emphasised that LaMelo, whilst an elite floor general, requires his brothers to win a championship. He told Rodriguez that the three Ball brothers possess lifelong chemistry developed through their upbringing and that he had never taught them to play independently. LaVar Ball also highlighted that LaMelo would play alongside Anthony Edwards, describing Edwards as already a superstar. He suggested that acquiring Lonzo and LiAngelo would be financially manageable, indicating both players could be obtained "damn near for nothing".
The trade represents a significant move for Minnesota, which some observers assessed as addressing a ceiling the franchise had reached with its existing roster. Coverage of the transaction noted that Ball is a uniquely gifted playmaker, though some sources identified him as one of the more unpredictable players in the league. The Timberwolves have now tied their playoff prospects to the youngest Ball brother's performance.
