BROOKE HENDERSON'S NIECE BORN DURING KPMG WOMEN'S PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

FRI 26 JUN 2026 GOLF

Brooke Henderson shot a 3-under-par round at Hazeltine National on Thursday during the 2026 KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Her sister Brittany informed her shortly before her tee time that she had given birth to a daughter at 4:51 a.m. Henderson said at the press conference that the news provided an emotional boost throughout her round. She made four birdies over her final twelve holes and recorded a single bogey.

The newborn has been named Sahalee, after the golf course in Sammamish, Washington, where Henderson won her first major championship exactly ten years earlier. Brittany, a former touring professional, has caddied for Henderson since 2016 and was present for thirteen of her fourteen LPGA victories. For Thursday's round, Henderson's cousin replaced Brittany on the bag. The name Sahalee translates to "high heavenly grounds" in the Spokane Native American language, according to Henderson's account.

At eighteen, Henderson became the first woman to win the KPMG Women's PGA Championship when she defeated world number one Lydia Ko in a playoff with a birdie on the 18th hole. Henderson stated that carrying the morning's news through the rest of the weekend remained her intention. The championship continued with Ina Yoon recording a first-round 63, which tied the Women's PGA Championship record, placing her two strokes ahead of Karis Davidson.
