MANCHESTER CITY AGREE £130M BRITISH RECORD FEE FOR ELLIOT ANDERSON
Manchester City have agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign Elliot Anderson, with the package valued at £130m, according to reports. The fee represents a British record transfer, eclipsing the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle for Alexander Isak last summer. Anderson, an England midfielder, is expected to undergo a medical in the United States within 24 hours whilst on international duty at the World Cup. The 23-year-old has chosen to join Manchester City over Manchester United, who were also interested in acquiring him.
Anderson spent two seasons at Nottingham Forest after moving from Newcastle for £35m. During his time at the City Ground, he helped the club finish seventh in the Premier League and reach the Europa League semi-finals. He has earned 11 caps for England since making his debut last September and started the opening two World Cup matches against Croatia and Ghana. Manchester City made two previous bids for Anderson before agreeing this fee.
Nottingham Forest are considering Lucas Bergvall as Anderson's replacement. The Tottenham midfielder wishes to leave the club, and talks have progressed over a potential £45m move, though other clubs are expected to express interest in the Sweden international. Newcastle will not benefit financially from Anderson's sale, as the club arranged his £35m transfer to Forest to meet Premier League profitability and sustainability regulations, with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos moving to Newcastle as part of a separate arrangement between the clubs.
