RAYS NO-HITTER BID ENDS IN NINTH INNING AGAINST ROYALS
The Tampa Bay Rays lost a no-hitter with two outs remaining in the ninth inning during a victory over the Kansas City Royals. Craig Kimbrel allowed a home run whilst pitching the final inning, ending the bid for a combined no-hitter. Junior Caminero hit three home runs in the Rays' blowout win. Three pitchers combined to throw 8 1/3 no-hit innings before the no-hitter was broken up.
Casey Legumina and Ian Seymour pitched without allowing a hit before Kimbrel entered the game. Kimbrel's appearance marked the third pitching change in the no-hit attempt. The Royals' batter who broke up the no-hitter did so via a ninth-inning home run.
The near no-hitter came during a dominant offensive performance by the Rays, with Caminero's three-home-run display contributing significantly to the margin of victory. The combination of near-perfect pitching and strong hitting underlined the Rays' superiority in the matchup. The no-hitter remained just out of reach despite the team's overall dominance in the game.
