EU DISBURSES €3.2 BILLION TO UKRAINE IN FIRST LOAN INSTALMENT
The European Commission released €3.2 billion to Ukraine on Thursday as the first instalment of a €90 billion macro-financial assistance loan, according to a Commission press release. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the disbursement at the Ukraine Recovery Conference. The funds are designated for budget and defence needs, the Commission stated.
The €3.2 billion represents the opening tranche of the broader €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan programme. The macro-financial assistance mechanism was established to provide long-term financial backing to Ukraine. The Commission indicated that further instalments would follow under the terms of the loan agreement.
The disbursement forms part of wider European Union financial support for Ukraine. The timing of the release, announced at the Ukraine Recovery Conference, signals the EU's commitment to sustained funding for Ukrainian government operations and defence capabilities. Additional tranches of the loan remain available according to the Commission's framework.
