OSCAR ONLEY RULED OUT OF TOUR DE FRANCE WITH SHOULDER INJURY

THU 25 JUN 2026 CYCLING

Oscar Onley has been ruled out of next month's Tour de France after sustaining a shoulder injury, Netcompany-Ineos confirmed. The 23-year-old Scottish rider crashed during stage six of the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in France. Initial assessment identified a dislocated shoulder, but further tests revealed a significant shoulder injury requiring his withdrawal from the race.

Onley finished fourth in last year's Tour de France, equalling the best result achieved by a Scottish rider. That previous record was set by Philippa York, then known as Robert Millar, in 1984. Onley stated he was "gutted" at missing this year's event but said his priority was rehabilitation. Netcompany-Ineos reported that Onley has begun recovery and is making encouraging progress.

The Tour de France runs from 4 July to 26 July, with the race starting in Barcelona and concluding at the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Onley said he remained motivated to salvage results elsewhere in the season following his recovery. The team did not announce a replacement rider or provide a timeline for Onley's return to competition.
