BRANDON AIYUK DEMANDS 49ERS RELEASE HIM TO JOIN COMMANDERS
Brandon Aiyuk, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, posted a series of messages on Instagram on Wednesday stating that if the team released him, he would sign with the Washington Commanders the following day. Aiyuk's posts included images of Commanders branding, a video challenging the 49ers to cut him, and captions referring to the Commanders as "the best team in the world". He accompanied the posts with a caption describing himself as "a lover" and said that if he was "crazy or capping", the 49ers should cut him so he could join Washington immediately.
Aiyuk remains under a four-year contract worth $120 million that the 49ers agreed to in 2024, though the guarantees in that deal have been voided. San Francisco general manager John Lynch stated months ago that Aiyuk had played his last snap with the team after missing the entire 2025 season. Aiyuk had previously posted criticism of the 49ers on social media, accusing them of being afraid to release him. A warrant for his arrest has also been issued, according to reports.
The 49ers have placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list, a designation that allows the team to retain his rights without him occupying a roster spot or generating financial obligation, as Aiyuk has not reported to the team. The team has made no public announcement regarding plans to release him or facilitate a trade to another organisation.
