KUPCHO LEADS US WOMEN'S OPEN AFTER FIRST ROUND AT RIVIERA

Jennifer Kupcho claimed the first-round lead at the US Women's Open at Riviera Country Club. She posted seven birdies during her opening round to move to the top of the leaderboard. Her performance placed her ahead of the field as the tournament's opening day concluded. The round established Kupcho as the early frontrunner in the year's second major championship.

The seven birdies Kupcho recorded across her round drove a score that separated her from the chasing pack. British players in the field struggled to match the pace set at the top of the leaderboard during the first round. Riviera Country Club, located in Pacific Palisades, California, is hosting the championship. The US Women's Open is organised by the United States Golf Association and ranks among the sport's most prestigious titles.

Kupcho will carry her lead into the second round as the tournament continues. The remaining rounds will determine whether she can maintain her position at the top of a competitive field. The US Women's Open is a 72-hole stroke play event, meaning three rounds remain after the opening day. Her first-round score sets the standard all other competitors must chase as the championship progresses.
