MAN CHARGED AFTER CRASH KILLS SEVEN-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER
Emmanuel Sakyi, aged 31, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a collision on Bletcham Way in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire on 4 December 2022. Aylesbury Crown Court heard that Sakyi was significantly above the legal drink-drive limit when he drove onto the wrong side of the road for a considerable distance. His daughter Emmanuela, aged seven months, was sitting in her mother's lap on the passenger side with a seatbelt across her stomach. The child sustained serious abdominal injuries in the collision and died in hospital in the early hours of 5 December. Sakyi denies both the primary charge and an alternative charge of causing death by careless driving whilst unfit through drink.
According to the prosecutor, Sakyi drove into an oncoming Fiat 500 driven by Shannon Willison, who flashed her lights and sounded her horn in an attempt to alert him to the danger. Sakyi made no response and the vehicles collided. The court heard that Sakyi left the scene after the crash. Police arrested him at his home in the early hours after attending his address. A post-mortem examination determined that the infant died from blunt force abdominal trauma. At Milton Keynes General Hospital, Sakyi told a medical professional that the collision occurred because the other vehicle was on the wrong side of the road.
The trial continues at Aylesbury Crown Court.
