UN NUCLEAR AGENCY CHIEF SIGNALS INSPECTOR VISITS TO IRAN SITES

WED 24 JUN 2026 INTERNATIONAL

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency has signalled that inspectors will visit Iranian nuclear enrichment sites as part of an interim deal between the United States and Iran aimed at ending conflict. The announcement represents a key element of the agreement under negotiation between the two nations. The visits would allow the IAEA to monitor Iran's nuclear activities directly at enrichment facilities.

Iran's foreign ministry stated following talks in Switzerland that it made "no new commitments" on nuclear inspections. The ministry's statement suggests divergence between the IAEA chief's signals and Iran's position on what obligations have been agreed. The distinction between the two accounts reflects ongoing negotiations over the scope and conditions of inspector access to Iranian nuclear sites.

The inspector visits form a central component of efforts to reach a settlement on Iran's nuclear programme. Both the timing and extent of such visits remain subjects of discussion between the parties involved. Confirmation of a final agreement on inspection protocols has not yet been announced by either the United States, Iran or the IAEA.
