TRAVELLER ORDERED TO PAY £800 FOR DUMPING DEAD BIRDS AND HARES

TUE 23 JUN 2026 CRIME

James Kempster has been ordered to pay £800 after being found in possession of the bodies of a barn owl and a kestrel alongside approximately 50 dead hares left outside a village shop in Hampshire. The carcasses were discovered on the forecourt of the shop, with blood reported on the window. Kempster was prosecuted following the discovery of the animals at the location.

The barn owl and kestrel were found amongst the hare carcasses outside the shop's entrance. Blood was smeared on the shop window as a result of the dumping. The accumulation of dead animals at the site prompted authorities to take action against Kempster for his possession and disposal of the wildlife remains.

The £800 payment represents the financial penalty imposed on Kempster in connection with the incident. No further details regarding sentencing or additional conditions have been confirmed. The case concludes the legal proceedings surrounding the discovery outside the Hampshire village shop.
