TATA ELECTRONICS CONFIRMS CYBERATTACK AFFECTING APPLE AND TESLA DATA
Tata Electronics, the electronics and semiconductor manufacturing division of the Tata Group, confirmed suffering a cyberattack on some of its systems. The company stated that response protocols were deployed immediately and that operations across all businesses remained unaffected. The breach came to light nearly two weeks after a threat actor identifying as World Leaks posted an archive on a data leak site, claiming to contain material from Tata Electronics.
The threat actor uploaded 204,341 files totalling 630.4GB, allegedly containing confidential data including Apple and Tesla schematics, passport scans, and proprietary manufacturing and engineering files. According to reporting by Reuters, approximately one-third of all iPhone production in India is conducted by Tata Electronics, which supplies Apple with back panels, enclosures and circuit board components. Tata Electronics has supplied Tesla with chips, circuit board assemblies and vehicle motor controller units since 2025. Security researchers analysed portions of the leaked files and reported finding hundreds of references to Apple and Tesla, as well as folders and documents marked as proprietary or confidential.
Reuters reported that Tata Electronics was being extorted by the threat actors, though the ransom amount demanded and the status of any negotiations remain unclear. Tata Electronics did not disclose further details regarding the scope of the breach or the nature of the compromised systems. The incident occurs as Tata Electronics expands its involvement in global technology supply chains.
