TUE 23 JUN 2026 US SPORTS

Oklahoma and North Carolina contested a winner-take-all Game 3 of the 2026 Men's College World Series championship on Monday in Omaha. Oklahoma secured a 1-0 series lead by defeating North Carolina 9-3 on Saturday. North Carolina equalised the series on Sunday with a 6-2 victory, forcing the decider.

The championship concluded a field of eight teams that included West Virginia, Troy, Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas and Alabama. The tournament coincided with the seventh running of the Rocco's Jello Shot Challenge, a fundraising competition where supporters of each programme purchased shots at $5 per unit. According to reported figures, West Virginia led the challenge with 28,208 shots sold, followed by Oklahoma with 12,290 shots and North Carolina with 9,123 shots. Each shot generated $1.50 for food banks associated with the participating institutions and local organisations.

Recorded data indicated that the past five winners of the Jello Shot Challenge had also won the Men's College World Series title. Louisiana State University won the preceding year's championship with 52,390 shots sold in their two-game victory over Coastal Carolina. The challenge began in 2019 and has expanded from a local event at Rocco's Pizza and Cantina into a competition tracked via social media updates throughout the tournament.
