THREE BROTHERS JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRLS IN SHEFFIELD

MON 22 JUN 2026 CRIME

Amar Ilyas, aged 41, was sentenced to 27 years in prison in his absence after being found guilty of raping vulnerable girls as young as 12 in Sheffield almost 20 years ago. Ilyas, who used the nickname Killer, fled to Pakistan before his conviction in September 2025 and remains outside the UK. He was convicted of raping four victims and sexually abusing a fifth. Two of his brothers, Kamar Ilyas and Kamran Ilyas, were also convicted of offences related to one of the girls Amar had raped, receiving sentences of 10 years and three years respectively on Monday.

According to detectives from the National Crime Agency, Ilyas subjected one child to what they described as "three years of relentless torment and rape" beginning at age 12. The offending involved biting, threats of gang rape and use of a firearm to coerce victims. Judge Peter Hampton noted that Ilyas "remorselessly terrorised" the girls. The judge characterised Ilyas's flight to Pakistan as cowardice and stated he continues attempting to manipulate proceedings from abroad through his legal representatives. The three brothers were arrested as part of Operation Stovewood, the NCA's investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

Judge Hampton praised the five women who gave evidence against Amar Ilyas for their courage, stating their voices had been heard and believed by jurors. He urged authorities to use "all means" to return Ilyas to the UK. The judge told the defendants that their victims had been targeted, sexualised and subjected to degrading and violent acts during their adolescence.
