LEO CULLEN TO LEAVE LEINSTER AT END OF NEXT SEASON

MON 22 JUN 2026 RUGBY

Leo Cullen is to depart his position as head coach of Leinster at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Cullen has held the role since 2015, leading the Irish province through nine years of competition in the United Rugby Championship and European rugby. His departure comes after a decade in which Leinster established itself as one of the dominant forces in Irish and European rugby. The decision marks the end of a significant tenure in Irish professional rugby.

Cullen took charge of Leinster during a period of transition for the province and oversaw multiple domestic titles and European competition campaigns. Under his leadership, Leinster competed consistently in top-tier rugby across multiple seasons. The timing of his announcement provides the province with advance notice to plan for a successor. Leinster officials will begin the process of identifying a replacement head coach.

The departure represents a notable change in Irish rugby's coaching structure. Leinster stated that further details regarding the club's future direction and coaching appointments would be announced in due course. Cullen's exit will conclude one of the longer tenures held by any head coach at a major Irish rugby province during the professional era.
