ST HELENS DEFEAT HUDDERSFIELD 38-6 TO END WINLESS RUN
St Helens ended a three-match winless run with a 38-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants in the Betfred Super League. Curtis Sironen scored twice for the hosts in the first half, with Nene Macdonald, Alex Walmsley, Harry Robertson and Jake Davies each adding tries. Jackson Hastings kicked five goals for St Helens. Cole Geyer scored Huddersfield's only try in the second half, with George Flanagan converting.
St Helens remain sixth in the table but moved level on 20 points with Hull KR in third, Wigan in fourth and Wakefield in fifth. Huddersfield, who started the match bottom of the table, have now lost eight consecutive games. The match took place amid summer heat conditions in the UK; Huddersfield's Lewis Jagger suffered heat exhaustion during the contest. The weather contributed to slow play and frequent errors throughout the afternoon.
St Helens dominated the first half, with Sironen's opening try initially disallowed following George Flanagan being judged tackled in the air before the try-scoring move. Huddersfield produced a stronger second-half display and applied pressure that led to Geyer's try, but St Helens' superior execution proved decisive. Davies' tries extended the hosts' lead beyond 30 points as the visitors' defensive structure broke down.
