BOYFRIEND ARRESTED IN KENYA OVER BANKER'S DEATH IN LONDON
Brian Kiprop Kipglagat was detained by immigration officers on 10 June as he attempted to cross from Kenya into Tanzania at Namanga, a border town in southern Kenya. He is now facing extradition to the United Kingdom in connection with the death of Marianne Kilonzi, a Citibank vice president who was found dead in her flat in Woolwich, London on 17 January last year. Kipglagat had been at large for more than a year following Kilonzi's death. The Metropolitan Police said a post-mortem examination determined that blunt force trauma and head injury were the cause of death.
Kilonzi, aged 43, held the position of vice president of trade and working capital sales at Citibank. The Metropolitan Police stated at the time of her death that officers believed she knew her attacker. The force indicated that one line of inquiry was that the suspect had fled the country. According to the source material, Kipglagat was being tracked by undercover police before his detention at the border.
Citibank released a statement following the arrest, saying the bank was "deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague" and extended thoughts to Kilonzi's family and friends. The extradition process will determine whether Kipglagat is returned to the UK to face charges relating to Kilonzi's death. No further details regarding the circumstances of her death have been made public.
