AL JAZEERA CAMERAMAN AHMED WISHAH KILLED IN ISRAELI STRIKE ON GAZA

SAT 20 JUN 2026 MIDDLE EAST

Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah was killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza on Saturday, according to the Qatar-based news network. Al Jazeera stated it "strongly condemns the heinous crime of targeting and killing" the Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent. Wishah's death occurred as the conflict in Gaza continues following Israel's military operations that began in October 2023. His killing brings the recorded number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the war to at least 260, according to Al Jazeera's account.

The strike that killed Wishah took place amid a broader pattern of casualties in Gaza reported by news organisations operating in the territory. Lebanese turtle conservationist Mona Khalil was also killed in an Israeli strike in the region after refusing to leave the beach she had spent years protecting, according to reporting from the BBC. Al Jazeera reported separately that a family, including two daughters, was killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza. The news network stated that Israel has repeatedly violated an October ceasefire agreement brokered by the US.

The deaths of media workers and civilians reported by news organisations underscore the documented toll of military operations in the Gaza region. International organisations tracking journalist casualties have registered significant numbers of media personnel killed since October 2023. Al Jazeera's statement regarding the alleged violations of the ceasefire arrangement reflects contested claims about the implementation and maintenance of that agreement. The circumstances surrounding each reported strike remain subjects of ongoing reporting and investigation.
