FRITZ BEATS ZVEREV TO REACH HALLE FINAL
Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in the Halle semi-final, recovering from a set down to win 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-5 and advance to the grass-court final. Zverev, the French Open champion, competed in hot conditions and required medical treatment during the match. Fritz extended his winning record against the world number three to seven consecutive victories and secured a second successive grass-court final appearance.
Fritz's progression follows a quarter-final victory over third seed Ben Shelton, whom Shelton had defeated in the Stuttgart final the previous week. The American described feeling more physically capable than his opponent in the extreme heat and identified that advantage as decisive to his comeback. Fritz noted that the tournament field remained competitive despite the absence of top-ranked players Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. He will face fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the final after Tiafoe beat Daniel Altmaier 6-1 6-3.
At Queen's, Tommy Paul retained his position as defending champion by defeating Frenchman Ugo Humbert 6-3 6-3 and reaching the final for a second consecutive year. Paul stated he had played at a high level throughout the season but had secured only one title so far. He will meet Argentine seventh seed Francisco Cerundolo, who defeated American Brandon Nakashima 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 in the semi-final after battling back from a set deficit.
