MISIOROWSKI THROWS 47 PITCHES AT 101 MPH IN BREWERS LOSS
Jacob Misiorowski of the Milwaukee Brewers threw a record 47 pitches at 101 mph or faster during his team's 3-2 defeat to the Atlanta Braves on Friday. The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher reached 104.2 mph with his fastball and threw 54 pitches of at least 100 mph overall, according to Statcast data. Misiorowski pitched six innings, surrendering two runs on five hits whilst striking out seven batters before being removed with the Brewers trailing 2-1.
The record 47 pitches at 101 mph or higher surpassed Misiorowski's previous high of 45, set on 6 June against the Colorado Rockies. He had entered Friday's game with a historic run of form, having given up just one earned run over 54.1 innings across eight starts. Mauricio Dubón's two-run single in the sixth inning ended a stretch of 29 innings during which Misiorowski had not allowed an earned run. His major league-leading earned run average rose from 1.34 to 1.45 following the loss.
Manager Pat Murphy stated after the game that Misiorowski remained in control despite the outcome. Murphy noted that the Braves demonstrated quality at-bats throughout the contest. Misiorowski entered the Friday start averaging 100.1 mph on his fastball, the fastest average velocity for a starter since pitch-tracking began in 2008.
