GOLDMAN SACHS CUTS YEAR-END GOLD FORECAST BY $500

FRI 19 JUN 2026 ECONOMY

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has reduced its year-end gold price forecast by $500 per ounce, according to the investment bank's strategists. The revised target stands at $4,900 per ounce, down from a previous forecast of $5,400 per ounce. The adjustment reflects changed expectations regarding Federal Reserve policy.

Goldman Sachs' strategists cited the Federal Reserve's stance on interest rates as the reason for the downward revision. The bank no longer expects the Federal Reserve to reduce rates during 2026. Lower interest rates typically support higher gold prices, as they reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets. The shift in rate expectations has therefore prompted strategists to lower their gold price projections.

The revision indicates how financial institutions adjust their forecasts in response to changing monetary policy expectations. Market participants monitor Federal Reserve communications closely, as policy decisions significantly influence commodity valuations and broader investment strategies. Goldman Sachs' updated forecast will likely inform investor positioning in gold markets as the year progresses.
