OLYMPIC MEDALLIST JENNY SIMPSON SHOWS IMPROVEMENT AFTER COLLAPSE
Jenny Simpson, an Olympic bronze medallist, is making encouraging improvement in hospital after collapsing at a running event in Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday. Simpson collapsed whilst pacing a mile group at a Sir Walter Miler pop-up event and required CPR. Fleet Feet, her employer, confirmed she received immediate medical attention and was transported to a nearby hospital. Fleet Feet CEO Joey Pointer remained with Simpson at the hospital throughout the night as her family travelled to be with her on Wednesday morning.
Simpson has demonstrated strength and resilience during her recovery, according to Fleet Feet's account. The American retired from competitive running at the end of 2024 after a career spanning multiple decades. She won gold in the 1500 metres at the 2011 World Championships and claimed bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Simpson also secured silver medals in the 1500 metres at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships.
Fleet Feet reported that Simpson has already enquired about her mile time from the event and whether she had won. She continues to receive medical care as her recovery progresses. No further updates regarding her condition or hospitalisation timeline have been confirmed at this stage.
